Green-lipped mussels are a type of mussel found off the coast of New Zealand. Their name comes from the green edges, or "lips," of their shells.
Green-lipped mussels are high in omega-3 fatty acids, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These fatty acids are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, meaning they can help reduce swelling and pain in your dog. They also contain an omega-3 fatty acid that is only found in green-lipped mussels, not in oily fish - eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA). ETA has been shown to block pain signals in the body in a similar way to NSAIDs, without causing similar side effects.
They also contain glycosaminoglycans (glucosamine and chondroitin). These are part of the 'building blocks' of cartilage, so mussels can also help maintain healthy joints. Several studies show that green-lipped mussels have a positive effect on arthritis.
Other important nutrients found in green-lipped mussels are vitamins and minerals, some with antioxidant properties. These nutrients include vitamins C and E, zinc, magnesium, copper, and selenium.
Mr. Bones air-drys the mussels at a low temperature to gradually remove moisture and extend their shelf life. This way, they remain a natural and healthy snack for your dog, as all the nutrients, aromas and flavors are preserved! These are human-grade, and are also good for humans, so just take a bite đ
NOTE: Since this is a completely natural product, and these are cleaned and sorted by humans, there may be some pieces of shells in the bag. These should not be given!

Feeding instructions
There is no set recommendation for how much to give, and it can also depend on whether you are giving for general health or to help a condition, and whether it is at the initial or maintenance stage. Each dog and cat may also have different needs.
A guideline for starting dose:
Feed 1 clam per 5 kg of body weight per day. As this super clam is very potent, you do not need to feed more than 1-3 clams per day to achieve the benefits.
Start with 1/4 dose and increase to the dose mentioned above, over time.
To get the full benefit of green-lipped mussels, they should be given over time - at least about 6 weeks. When you stop giving the mussels, the benefits tend to wane after a few weeks.
