Green-lipped mussel is known for its beneficial properties for good joint health, as it contains omega-3 fatty acids and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). GAGs form part of the 'building blocks' of cartilage, thus helping to maintain healthy joints. In addition, green-lipped mussel is a natural source of important minerals such as selenium, iodine, iron, and taurine, the latter being an essential amino acid for cats.
Omega-3 fatty acids are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, meaning they can help reduce swelling and pain. They also contain an omega-3 fatty acid found only in green-lipped mussels, eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA). ETA has been shown to block pain signals in the body in a similar way to NSAIDs, without causing the side effects that NSAIDs can. Several studies show that green-lipped mussels have positive effects on relieving mobility-related disorders, such as osteoarthritis, and degenerative joint diseases.

Who should receive green-lipped mussels? ▾
- Daily as the dog's and cat's omega-3 supplement
- For growing and developing young animals
- For pets that are very physically active, training and competitions
- For overweight dogs and cats with high joint strain
- For skin and coat problems, or during shedding periods
- As support for inflammatory conditions
- To support joint metabolism, which is a complex process crucial for maintaining healthy and well-functioning joints
Note: Always consult with a veterinarian first if your pet has chronic pain such as arthritis, osteoarthritis, muscle tension, lameness, painful limited movement, or abnormal strain/posture. Also if the pet is on anti-inflammatory medication, as this may alter the composition.
It is also not recommended to give green-lipped mussel to lactating bitches, due to the high levels of minerals. It is also not for pets with thyroid or liver problems, due to its high iodine content.

Dosage
Give 5g per 10kg body weight in food daily.
