Slippery elm - now also in tincture
This tincture is made from the bark of the American Slippery Elm. It can help soothe and reduce swelling in all mucous membranes, including: including nose and throat. It contains mucilage that forms a protective layer on all mucous membranes. If your pet is suffering from irritated mucous membranes in the intestines or urinary tract, this tincture can have a soothing effect, and can also help with coughs and sore throats.
Slippery elm is a prebiotic, meaning it feeds the good bacteria in the gut, supporting good gut function. The mucus it produces soothes and lubricates the lining of the gut, which can help with diarrhea, colitis, constipation, irritable bowel disease, and gastroenteritis. The high fiber content can help with upset stomachs.
Whether you choose powder or tincture depends on what is easiest for you and what your animal prefers. The tincture does not need to be mixed with water; it can be used immediately if necessary. Simply shake the bottle quickly and administer directly into the animal's mouth.
Important information
- Do not give it at the same time as medications: Slippery elm can reduce the absorption of medications if given at the same time. Therefore, give it at least 2 hours before or after medications.
- Do not give this to pregnant or nursing women: The use of Slippery elm in pregnant or nursing women is not well documented, so it is not recommended to give it to the pet then.
- Avoid long-term use without veterinary supervision: While slippery elm is safe, you should always consult a veterinarian if your pet has persistent problems. Long-term use may mask underlying health problems.

Other information
To make this tincture, the bark is extracted in purified water and vegetable glycerin, which preserves the bark's natural and valuable components and allows it to unfold its effect without much time. The slimy consistency is desirable and allows it to better form a "protective film" over the mucous membrane.

It may also be beneficial to administer it before bedtime, as it may work in the gastrointestinal system throughout the night.
