Green-lipped mussels are a type of mussel found off the coast of New Zealand. They get their name from the green edges, or “lips,” of their shells. The mussels are high in omega-3 fatty acids, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These fatty acids are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, meaning they can help reduce swelling and pain in dogs and cats. They also contain an omega-3 fatty acid that is only found in green-lipped mussels, not in oily fish – eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA). ETA has been shown to block pain signals in the body in a similar way to NSAIDs, without causing similar side effects.
They also contain glycosaminoglycans (glucosamine and chondroitin). These are part of the 'building blocks' of cartilage, so mussels can also help maintain healthy joints, and can relieve joint pain or stiffness. Several studies show that green-lipped mussels have a positive effect on arthritis.
Other important nutrients found in green-lipped mussels are vitamins, amino acids, and minerals, some with antioxidant properties. These nutrients include taurine, vitamins C and E, zinc, magnesium, copper, and selenium.
Mr. Bones air-drys the mussels at low temperatures to gradually remove moisture and extend their shelf life, then crushes them to a grainy texture. This way, they remain a natural and healthy supplement for your dog and cat, preserving all their nutrients, aromas and flavors.

How to use it?
Enrich your dog's food by sprinkling a little on the food, whether it's dry, wet or raw - it doesn't matter. It has a high taste, so you don't need more than a small amount to make your dog's food irresistible and nutritious. The supplement is a great alternative to the whole dried mussels, as this can be mixed directly into the food and the dog/cat can therefore not sift it out.

Jeg bruker fingrene til å strø over maten istedenfor skjeen som følger med. Hvis jeg bruker skjeen må jeg grave meg ned med den for å få på lokket igjen, og da søles det litt. En løsningen er jo selvsagt å ha skjeen utenfor😅
